Founder and Managing Director The Eton Collection – development of a small group of luxury boutique hotels, providing 70 or so quality guest rooms in London Edinburgh and Leeds. Flagship was the Threadneedles Hotel in the City of London and the Glasshouse in Edinburgh. In 1990 founder Balmoral International, a company formed to manage and develop five star hotels to include the Balmoral in Edinburgh, Marbella Club and Puente Romano Hotels in Marbella in Spain, and two hotels in Germany, the Rose Hotel in Wiesbaden and the Schwartzerhof Hotel in Leipzig.
Managing Director of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. Quadrupled EBITDA from $18m to $69m in four years on same asset base. Took company public in London and Hong Kong stock exchanges. Previously Managing Director of Gleneagles Hotels, the first privatisation of government assets under Margaret Thatcher, and raised funds to acquire three hotels from British Rail, Gleneagles, and The Caledonian and the then North British hotels in Edinburgh. Increased the portfolio to include the Piccadilly in London.
Extensive experience in both commerce and industry and property development.
Awarded an MBE in 2010 in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to the hotel industry.
