Overview of the Business

Hospitality and Leisure Manpower (HALM) is an independent, international, consulting group, with its head office in London, employing staff with extensive experience of policy and strategy work with Government Departments, and Agencies, Tourist Boards, Business Link, Trade Associations and Professional Bodies in the sector to manage and deliver complex and substantive collaborative projects. This includes research to identify skill needs; the development of the sector’s training and business support infrastructure; the management of a network of sector specific business coaches and facilitators; business benchmarking and development services; the production of toolkits and learning materials mapped against occupational standards and research into best practice which develop competence and generate evidence for assessment, together with the administration of accreditation schemes, award schemes and competitions.

Name: Mr David L. N. Battersby, OBE, MSc, FIH Background: David Battersby was previously Director of Training for the Hotel and Catering Training Board with responsibility for a national recruitment, training, retention and enterprise strategy for the tourism and hospitality industry. David has over 30 years experience of work at a strategic level in the tourism, hospitality and leisure industry. He is a Past President of the Hotel and Catering International Management Association. He is also a Director of the Academy of Food and Wine Service, a Fellow of the Tourism Society, and a past Trustee of the Savoy Educational Trust. In 1999 David was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
